The illustration "Carp or Koi" was made in 1926 by Ohar Koson (1877-1945), who was a Japanese painter and graphic artist from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, part of the shin-hang movement (lit. "new graphics, new woodcuts"). This movement originated from the beginning of the 20th century in Japan, being a kind of revival of the traditional art of ukiyo-e from the Edo iMeandjiperiods (17th-19th centuries).
He maintained the traditional ukiyo-e cooperation system (systemhanmoto), in which the artist, sculptor, printer and publisher take part in the graphic creation process.
