The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) watercolor collection documents fruit and nut varieties developed by breeders or introduced by plant researchers at the Department of Agriculture at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. Painted fruit accurately reflecting reality was used to create lithographs illustrating the newsletters, chronicles, and other series of the Department distributed to growers and gardeners throughout America. plant specimens illustrated are from 29 countries and 51 US states and territories. They were created by 21 artists employed for this purpose by the Department. Some works are not signed.
