This original illustration from the "Plants" series was made by Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759-1840), a Belgian painter and draftsman, known mainly for his perfect botanical illustrations. Redouté's output is impressive, with more than 2,100 tables listing 1,800 plant species, many of which have been described for the first time. Watercolors and drawings of flowers brought him special popularity.
