Moon - posterPaper:Smooth matte
Size:50 x 70 cm
Posters from the Astronomy series show all eight planets in the solar system and five dwarf planets in the solar system, plus the sun and moon. They were made, especially at our request, by the artist from Krakow as a second series, showing the same planets in a different, original perspective.
This poster shows the Moon, Earth's only natural satellite. It is the fifth largest moon in the solar system. The average distance from the center of the Earth to the center of the Moon is 384,399 km, which is roughly thirty times the Earth's diameter. The moon's diameter is 3,474 km, slightly more than 1/4 the diameter of the Earth. This means that the volume of the Moon is approximately 1/50 the volume of the globe. The gravitational acceleration on its surface is nearly 6 times weaker than on Earth. The moon makes a complete orbit around the Earth in 27.3 days (the so-called sideric month), and periodic changes in the geometry of the Earth-Moon-Sun system cause the Moon phases to repeat in a 29.53-day (synodic month) cycle.
