The poster from the "Red Book of Animals" series shows the Eurasian Owl (Glaucidium passerinum) - a species of small bird from the Tawny Owl family. It lives in the forests of north-eastern Europe and Asia, locally occurs in the mountainous areas of Central Europe. In Poland, a very small breeding bird in the mountains, in Lower Silesia (Sudety and Bory Dolnośląskie), in the Carpathians and in the north-east of the country (mainly in the Białowieża Forest, northern Podlasie). In the years 2008–2012, its population in the country was estimated at 1000–1500 pairs. It is entered in the Polish Red Book of Animals, under strict protection.
Polish Red Book of Animals is a register of endangered animal species in Poland. It contains a list of endangered animal species with a detailed description and maps of their distribution. It also determines the degree of threat to individual species, the rarity of their occurrence, and the applied and proposed protection methods. With this mini-series, we want to present the beautiful species of animals in Poland that are under strict protection.
