Poster for the Transrapid Shanghai magnetic railway line from the "Miracles of Technology" series. The series presents the greatest technological achievements of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The first commercial magnetic rail line in the world. Construction began in March 2001, and commissioning for passenger use took place three years later on January 1, 2004. The train was manufactured in Germany. The line is 30.5 km long and has two stations. The line is operated by Shanghai Maglev Transportation Development Co., Ltd. The train can reach a speed of 350 km / h in 2 minutes, with a maximum speed of 431 km / h in normal operation. During the test on November 12, 2003, the train reached a maximum speed of 501 km / h.

The construction of this railway line took 10 billion yuan (€ 2 billion) and took 2.5 years. The line runs from Pudong District Longyang Road Station (connection to metro lines 2 and 7) to Pudong International Airport (airport) station. From the airport, additional tracks lead to the railway depot. The journey takes 7 minutes and 20 seconds.
