The Wigry National Park poster is included in our new series of posters POLISH NATIONAL PARKS. A unique series that depicts the most beautiful and picturesque corners of the country. Our tourism posters show the more popular areas of beautiful Poland.
Wigry National Park , is one of 23 national parks in Poland. Established in 1989 and covering an area of more than 150 square kilometres, it is located in the Suwalsko-Augustowskie Lakeland, in the north-western part of the Augustów Primeval Forest.
The most valuable natural elements of the park are the water ecosystems, including the largest Lake Wigry and the longest river and one of the most popular canoe routes, the Czarna Hańcza. Vast forest areas, dominated by pines and spruces, represent the type of forest characteristic for the Augustów Primeval Forest.
Beavers are given special protection in the Park. The Wigry National Park is a motherlode of this rodent. When beavers were almost non-existent in the whole of Poland after World War II, one of the first beaver colonies was discovered in the present borders of the Park, at the mouth of the Czarna Hańcza River into Lake Wigry. Today, the beaver is a permanent feature of the Suwałki landscape. It is also the symbol of the Wigry National Park and our poster.
The Wigry National Park poster is the work of Maciej Ptasiński. A one-of-a-kind poster of Polish tourism, made especially for us.
