A poster with a patent reproduction depicting the BMW M1 prototype, a super sports coupé.
The M1 is the only BMW car with a longitudinally mounted mid-engine designed for public roads. Its 3,441 cm³ inline six-cylinder petrol engine with dual camshafts and Kugelfischer multi-point fuel injection enabled a top speed of 260 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.
The patent was created by Giorgetto Giugiaro, an Italian designer, primarily of cars. In 1999, Giorgetto Giugiaro won the top prize in a poll for the best car designer of the 20th century. Patent number US252020S was published in 1979 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
