The World's Largest Excavator
Built in 1978 for Rheinbraun, a mining company operating under the Krupp brand, this gigantic excavator remains the world's largest to this day. Weighing 13,500 tons, the Bagger 288 is used for open-pit work in a German lignite mine. Due to its considerable weight, the excavator's undercarriage is 46 meters wide and runs on three rows of four crawler tracks, each 3.8 meters wide. This means the track pressure on the ground is low, at approximately 17.1 N/cm². This allows the excavator to operate on any surface. However, the enormous weight of several thousand tons means that the excavator only reaches a speed of 0.1 to 0.6 km/h, or 2 to 10 meters per minute. The minimum turning radius is approximately 100 meters. In 2001, the excavator completely uncovered a mine in Hambach and was transported for further work to the Garzweiler open-pit mine, 22 km away. The transport took three weeks and cost 15 million marks. The machine's daily capacity is 240,000 tons of coal or 240,000 cubic meters of overburden, which is the equivalent of a hole the size of a football field and 30 meters deep. The coal extracted daily by the Bagger can fit on 2,400 wagons. The excavator operates 24 hours a day and is operated in three shifts. During operation, Friedrich Krupp AG must supply the excavator with 16.56 megawatts of electricity. This 13,500-ton colossus measures 240 meters long, 46 meters wide, and 96 meters high (the height of a 30-story skyscraper). The bucket wheel, which the excavator uses to scoop out coal, is mounted on a boom. The 21.6-meter-diameter head is equipped with 18 buckets, each with a capacity of 6.6 cubic meters.Jeśli kupisz również ramkę, zajmiemy się oprawą bez dodatkowych kosztów.
