Notecka Forest poster from the "Regions of Poland" series. The series presents the most beautiful regions of Poland, both the larger, more well-known ones, and the smaller ones. The series aims to showcase the beauty of our country in a beautiful and engaging way. This Notecka Forest poster, like the entire series, was created especially for us by Poznań-based artist Katarzyna Nowakowska.
Notecka Forest is a large forest complex in the Gorzów Basin in the northwestern part of the Greater Poland Voivodeship. The forest covers 1,372 km². A Promotional Forest Complex was established within its boundaries in 2004. The forest was shaped by the last glaciation. The melting glacier deposited vast amounts of sand, which now form large dune banks. The average height of the dunes is 20 meters, and the largest, Wielka Sowa, reaches 42 meters. The area bordering the Warta and Noteć rivers is home to numerous ribbon lakes, but the forest's center is relatively dry. The Noteć Forest is covered primarily by pine forests with a smaller number of birch trees. The forests originated from artificial plantings in the second half of the 19th century.
Animals of the Noteć Forest
Numerous protected animals inhabit the forest. Among the mammals, the most common are wolves and otters, and the rare dormouse. Birdwatchers can encounter white-tailed eagles, ospreys, honey buzzards, red and black kites. Amphibian and reptile species include the European fire-bellied toad, the crested snail, the European pond turtle, the European adder, the smooth snake, toads, and frogs.
