This original illustration from the "Plants" series was created by Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759-1840), a Belgian painter and draughtsman known primarily for his exquisite botanical illustrations.
Redouté's oeuvre is impressive, leaving behind over 2,100 plates depicting 1,800 plant species, many of which were described for the first time. He was particularly popular for his watercolors and flower drawings. The accompanying illustration depicts the European olive (Olea europaea).
