Peacock Island is a poster from our bestselling REGIONS poster series. So far, we've been presenting regions of Poland, and now the next posters will depict regions of Europe. This collection aims to showcase the most beautiful and, in the literal sense of the word, most picturesque regions in Europe.
The poster depicts Peacock Island on the Havel River, in southwest Berlin (Steglitz-Zehlendorf district). The island owes its name to the peacocks that live there in the wild. In the 18th century, Frederick William II built a romantic palace (maison de plaisance) on the island, surrounded by a park (approx. 67 ha) designed by Peter Joseph Lenné, which once served as the summer residence of the Prussian kings. In 1990, Peacock Island, as one of the park and palace complexes in Berlin, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
