This poster from the "Red Data Book of Animals" series depicts the common porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) – a species of mammal in the porpoise family. Related to dolphins, it occurs in shallow, cool coastal waters (including the Baltic Sea). In 2014, the population of porpoises living in the Baltic Sea was estimated at 447 individuals. It is listed in the Polish Red Data Book of Animals and is strictly protected.
The Polish Red Data Book of Animals is a register of endangered animal species in Poland. It contains a list of endangered animal species with detailed descriptions and distribution maps. It also identifies the level of threat to individual species, their rarity, and the existing and proposed conservation measures. With this mini series, we want to showcase the beautiful animal species in Poland that are strictly protected.
This poster, like the entire series, was created especially for us by artist Anna Oracz.
